Pit Rim Walkway cache celebrates the opening of the extension of the Martha Mine Pit Rim Walkway, which now makes a complete loop around the mine. The pathway is a well formed gravel track, there may be sheep grazing along the way, so please remember to shut the gates.
The cache is located along the walkway, on a section between Roycroft Street and Bulltown Road. If the cache is accessed via Roycroft street, you will walk through a area known as Slevin Park. This now deserted area once contained homes and gardens that were evacuated in 2001 after the collapse of houses due to subsidence caused by the weakening of underground mine shafts. Today concrete pads of houses and fruit trees are still apparent.
The cache is a small one litre metal box wrapped in a plastic bag, at the time of placing the cache contained:
- Log book
- First to find certificate and chip
- Box of sticky ladybird bugs
- Whistle
- Compass
- Business card holder
