Go to the main coordinates after dark and use a flashlight to find the 10 reflective markers leading to the cache.
This is a night cache--you have to go after sunset and bring a bright flashlight to find it. We recommend you park near the trail head waypoint and follow the trail to the main coordinates. Since the GPS reception isn't too good in these woods, I've placed a reflector at the exact starting location. Go to it and shine your flashlight all around to find a reflective marker in the distance. Go to that location and look for the next marker, and so on. The cache is a 15 quart, clear Tupperware-type container hidden in the woods within 20 feet of the 10th reflector. In case you lose count, the last reflector is an X shape. Please replace the camouflage so the container is not visible.
We were able to find the markers with a small 2xAA focusing mini-MagLite flashlight after dark. If you can't see the next reflector, just move a couple of feet and shine your light around again, in case foliage was blocking your view.
Please be safe walking in the woods at night. It's good to bring a friend, a cell phone, and spare flashlight/GPSr batteries. Also, watch out for hazards that could trip you up, like small holes, rocks, fallen logs, and a small section of broken down fence you may pass. Some like to wear clear safety glasses since it's hard to see small branches at eye level by flashlight.
There's a Cache In Trash Out container stuffed with plastic bags in the cache. If you see any trash around, please take a bag and some trash. Thanks! We hope you enjoy Rock Hill's only (so far) night cache!
Founded in 1886, Winthrop University is a public, coeducational, comprehensive teaching university that teaches students to Live, Learn, and Lead. Winthrop’s Main Campus, located on two sides of Oakland Ave., contains most of the educational and residential buildings, while “The Farm” area located off of Eden Terrace, contains Athletic and recreational facilities. Winthrop welcomes geocachers but any disturbance or interference with the educational focus of the institution will result in the cacher being asked to leave the premise. Visitors to the campus must follow all traffic regulations and park only in those areas identified as Visitor Parking, or drivers may be ticketed and cars towed.
