Geocache Description:

A cache near a remote cemetery in the Bankhead Forest.

This is a small camo'd lock-n-lock container placed by a remote cemetery. I'm hoping to get a new series of caches started that are placed near historic cemeteries and old whiskey stills in the Bankhead forest. I encourage everyone who loves the forest and geocaching in the forest to participate in placing caches in this series. I'm trying to remember where some of the old stills I remember are located so I can continue this series further. Some of the old cemeteries are not on any maps, so if you know of any of these I encourage you to place a cache nearby. This cache is at a place called Robbins cemetery on the USGS topo maps but I believe the proper name is Garrison-Payne Cemetery. In this very small cemetery you will find the graves of two true American heroes, Stephen Garrison and Matthew Payne. Mr Garrison was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and Mr. Payne was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. There are also a couple of unnamed graves here. The cache is about 80 feet outside the cemetery. The cache should be easy to find and the terrain rating is mainly because the length of the hike, six miles round trip. All the hiking is on an old gravel road so there is no bushwhacking involved. The road will fork a short way in, take the LEFT fork. This land is in the Black Warrior WMA so be sure to wear some blaze orange when hunting is going on October through January. Good luck and happy hunting.
