Kawanavista Park II Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ScienceCacher: In anticipation for our move out of the area I did a loop around the area to visit, collect and archive all of my “regular” geocaches. I will keep the puzzle, Earthcache and Wherigo caches active for the time being. Although we purchased our retirement property well over a year ago, we have been doing some renovations to prepare the house, barn and property for our needs. We have been making the move very gradually but plan to be fully moved in by the end of summer.
I will miss my geocaching pals in the Tri-State area but since I will be living less than three hours away, I plan to return for geocaching events and to visit friends. I haven’t gotten to know geocachers near our new home but I am looking forward to meeting the geocaching community there.
Most of the geocaches that I am archiving are in the Ridge series which was a “gas saver” route along Barker’s Ridge and Union Ridge in Eastern Cabell County. There are a few in Barboursville Park and along US Rt. 60 as well. These caches have been up for adoption since April 2017 and because no one expressed interest, I am going to archive them to allow someone to place another cache in the area.
I hope to see my geocaching pals soon.

Geocache Description:

This cache is placed near the old Kawanavista Park along the Midland Trail (US Rt. 60). It replaces the original Kawanavista cache that was nearby.

If you are my age or older (a half century) you remember road trips with the family on two lane roads in the family car. There were no interstate highways, fast food restaurants and chain motels. Moreover, there were no highway rest areas as we know them today.

There were, however, roadside rests. These havens of sanity in a road vacation provided a place to rest and picnic after being confined to an unairconditioned car all day.

Kawanavista was one of those roadside rests along the Midland Trail, now known as US Rt. 60. There were picnic tables, grill pits, outside toilets, a hand pumped well and a shady place to relax.

This replacement cache is across the road and a little east from the old roadside rest. There is an easy place to park.

Since construction for the new Breckenridge subdivision has built a road over the previous location of this cache, it has been relocated and made an EGG micro.  It is actually closer to the short lived Knottywood than to what used to  be Kawanavista Park, but until the construction mess clears, the cache will have to reside here.  For the time being it is a BYOP micro EGG.

The container is a small clear jar..

Happy travels.
