Geocache Description:

This large-sized small cache is located in the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. It is about 0.5 miles from the Sterling Pointe Staging area parking lot. Take the Pioneer Express Trail towards the south, when it Ys take the lower or "beach " trail, it is about 50 feet off the lower trail, very little bushwacking required. The cache is right above what appeared to be the normal high water mark and near some very interesting ruins.

When Folsom Lake was created in the 1950s many small towns were lost, but some of the ruins are visible during low water years. A few of the towns flooded were: Mormon Island, Red Bank, Maple Ridge, Bean, Poker Bar, Salmon Falls, Doton's Bar and Horseshoe Bar. This area contained mines, a winery, a dairy, orchards, many canals, bridges and of course house and barn foundations.

When this cache was placed a beautiful, large bridge? was readily visible below the cache. If you look at the Google Earth image of this cache area you can see the bridge underwater in the nearby cove. If you have any information about this specific spot I'd love to hear about it and post the info on this cache page. Be careful and please don't remove any artifacts you might find on your way to and from any of the caches in the area, it is illegal to do so! Good Luck and have fun!
