Geocache Description:

Located in Pomme de Terre City Park

Recognizing the need for recreational facilities near the Stevens County seat of Morris, in west-central Minnesota, the Executive Council also acquired 363.51 acres of land on the Pomme de Terre River, employed WPA labor to construct a dam that impounded a lake of 120 acres, and thus created Pomme de Terre Recreational Reserve, which also received official standing in 1937. All the standard facilities were installed, plus a diving tower and an outdoor amphitheater. As at Split Rock Creek, the landscape was originally treeless, so the WPA workers planted some 5,000 trees. Only a mile from Morris and patronized chiefly by local people, it was a city park in everything but name. In 1965 it was included in the legislation that transferred Toqua Lakes and Sleepy Eye to local jurisdiction, and thus the parks division disposed of another of its minor units.
