This cache is hidden in the Gander Mountain Forest Preserve. The park is open from 6:30 a.m. until sunset.
There are some great trail systems and footpaths in this beautiful 300-acre preserve. This is Lake County's highest natural elevation. Gander Mountain tops out at 957 feet above sea level. This area’s geography is a result of deposits left from the retreating glaciers at the end of the last ice age. Hiking is permitted throughout the preserve, but mountain bikes and horses are required to stay on the gravel road.
This cache is "winter friendly", but the parking issue is a problem during those months if snow is dominant. There are a few places to park off the road here (off-road gravel patches). Do not park in front of the gate. Access to and from the parking area can be dangerous due to poor sight lines and fast moving traffic. Please use extreme caution.
