A waterfall-cache where you stay dry!
Als Fürst von und zu Liechtenstein weitläufigen Grundbesitz in der Semmeringgegend erwarb, ging er daran, dem Geiste des 19.Jahrhunderts entsprechend, die Landschaft zu gestalten. So war das Fehlen eines Wasserfalles im Bereich der Adlitzgräben für ihn ein behebbarer Mangel. Er ließ daher 1830 einen Zulauf vom Bach unterhalb der Rotte Orthof graben und beim Falkenstein drei kurze Stollen schlagen. So konnte der Besucher vom Roten Kreuz (N47 39,364 E15 50,176) aus einen herrlichen Wasserfall, direkt aus dem Felsen heraustretend, betrachten.
Diese Anlage war bis zum Bau des Weltkulturerbes Semmeringbahn 1840 durch den genialen Ingenieur Carl Ritter von Ghega in Funktion. Ghega musste den uralten Karrenweg auf die heutige Trasse der L136 umlegen, wobei dadurch der Zulauf unterbrochen wurde – der Wasserfall ist damit zum „Lost Place“ geworden.

When prince of Liechtenstein acuired a wide property in the Semmering region, he started 1830 to design the scenery according to the spirit of the begining 19th century. The lack of a cascade in the area of Adlitzgräben was a repairable fact for him. He ordered to dig a water intake starting at the small stream close to Orthof and built a free level tunnel near Falkenstein rocks. So visitors could admire from Rotes Kreuz (N47 39,364 E15 50,176) a marvelous cascade comming directly out of the rock face.
This creation was in function up to the constructing the world heritage Semmeringbahn by the ingenious Carl Ritter of Ghega. Ghega had to move 1840 the old track to the todays position of L136 and therefore the water intake had been cut off – the cascade turned into a Lost Place.
