Vienna Exploration Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

robert: Thanks to all that have found Vienna Exploration since I put it out over 7 years ago. I think it's served its purpose and I've held this spot long enough. Due to the fact I've not been able to get over there to find a suitable replacement, I'm going to open up the area to new hides by archiving it. I've thought long and hard about it, but it's been tough to maintain this long in a high traffic area and something new should be placed to bring more people back to this cool area.

Have fun,

robert [:D]

Geocache Description:

Brief tour of some of the historic spots in Vienna (there are others, for sure, this is only a sample. I'll add some of the others to additional waypoints if you wish to visit them!). Terrain is mostly flat. Almost made this a multi, but thought a self-guided tour with a twist would be better -- the "twist" being the goal outlined below.

There is quite a bit of history in this small little town of Vienna, this cache will give a bit of that history as you complete the stops. All "stages" are within walking distance, and most are visible from the parking area. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any issues. I would rather people have fun and enjoy the cache than get frustrated, so I am happy to answer any questions or give hints when necessary.

Cache is not at the posted coordinates, but they do provide a good spot to park. You might recognize it if you did my previous cache here. Your goal is to find and visit the various places in the picture below and gather the required information. Some may be obvious, some may require a bit of reading. When you have visited all of them, you can obtain the final coords for the cache, which is nearby.

A = Date this building was erected: 18XX. Subtract 20 from the last two digits.

B = Year of the “grand opening”: 20XX. Subtract 25 from the last two digits.

C = Confederate troops used this building as what? How many letters in the answer? Subtract seven from that number.

D = How many letters in the name of the “Farm community consisting of houses, mills”, etc.? Add one to that number.

E = Date on “Town of Vienna Virginia” historic marker = 18XX. Subtract 83 from the last two digits.

F = Year this was dedicated: 20XX. Add seventy-two to the last two digits.

(you’ll need both digits)

G = The year the first train reached Leesburg from Alexandria = 18XX. Subtract 54 from the last two digits.

You are looking for a small, well camo'd tube-shaped container (contains a logsheet, but no pen/pencil). It's about as big around as a film can, and maybe 2.5 times as tall. Please do not disconnect it, merely separate the bottom from the top. Have fun, and enjoy your exploration of Vienna!

Congrats to Serrabou and Sassafras' Mom on the FTF!
