A fine stand of towering totara and kahikatea trees can be found in the Mangatoro scenic reserve, about 12km east of Dannevirke on the road to Weber.
Enjoy a 25 minute loop walk through some forest giants. Suggest walking the loop in an anticlockwise direction, you will then find the cache first before continuing on further to see the largest totara in the reserve. The track is marked with orange triangles – it can be slippery and there are some gnarly roots. The cache is a 1 litre waterproof container holding a range of small items for your enjoyment.
