Geocache Description:

Cache is hidden off the Stuart Highway at the Wishart Siding

Wishart Siding is named after a contractor who helped construct the railway jetty in Port Darwin. It was also known as 22 Mile. Wishart was home to a gang of fettlers who maintained the line towards Adelaide River.
The Northern Australian Line was started in 1886. The line was built by 3000 Chinese and more then 119 Tamils labourers. They managed to build the line from, (then Palmerston), now Darwin to Pine Creek, 19 months ahead of schedule.
The line was closed in 1976 after parts of the track was damaged by Cyclone Tracey.

Make sure you go right down to the end of the siding and have a look at the memorial.
