The WDFW has purchased 80 acres the mouth of Tarboo creek. Lower Tarboo Creek is a rare example of an undeveloped lower river floodplain in Washington. The lower river and adjoining tributaries, side channels, wetlands, Sitka Spruce groves, cedar, and fir forest and Dabob Bay shoreline provide excellent habitat for at-risk salmon stocks and priority wildlife species. According to the WDFW web site the purchase to "protect high quality stream and riparian habitat for salmon and wildlife and to protect the Tarboo-Dabob Bay’s water quality. It includes both conifer and deciduous forests and supports protected species such as bald eagle, northern spotted owl and marbled murrelet".

The cache has a rating of 4 for terrain only because you need to walk over all this wood debris tossed up by winter storms.

Parking is a small pull out as soon as to get to the bay. There is a slightly larger pull out on the opposite side of the road. Would recommend boots. The logs you need to cross might be slick even in the summer months. Cache is easy to to find. The plug we used to cover it is not only to hopefully keep the muggles from finding it but also to help keep the cache from being washed out during winter storm surges.
