Geocache Description:

A late addition to the Hawkhurst Smugglers series to make six in total. A circular walk of just over 6 miles around Hawkhurst on well marked paths. A map would be useful to link the caches.

Named after the Hawkhurst Smugglers who controlled all the smuggling on the south coast between 1735 and 1749. Farmers were forced to lend them horses and informers would be beaten or murdered. They operated from the Oak & Ivy pub in Hawkhurst, where, apparently, a tunnel ran from the pub to Tubs Lane near Cranbrook. A cave, used by the smugglers as a storehouse, was discovered in Soper's Lane.

The cache is a 35mm film canister and is on a by-way which can be very muddy in parts. Please bring a pencil.
