Hints Ford Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

mad skier: The cache is fine, but due to supposed cachers moaning about some other of my caches, I have disabled this along with ALL my other caches and will no longer participate in this 'sport'. I would ask that folk who do geocaching perhaps put something back into the sport rather than just 'take', as when I was active I would always take a spare notebook and container with me, and if found one damp or unusable would just replace rather than moan

Good luck to all the 'proper' geocachers out there

Geocache Description:

Near to Hints Ford. Could be a tricky one to find as well camouflaged - please ensure it is equally well re-hidden.

Note the original container has been repaired and replaced with one with a pop-off lid, so please don't try to unscrew it!!

One of a series of cache's placed by Mad Skier and [Monki], all hidden in a variety of different ways

Parking recommended by the Ford at 52.37.414 / 001 46 251, however please note if parking elsewhere then please do so respectfully as there is not much room in the lane.

A beautiful area this, and one that is to be utterly destroyed by the HS2 folly, which goes right through here

The ford is usually only a few inches deep, especially if you stick to the edge of the road, and should be easily navigable with waterproof walking boots. Obviously take care with children, and check thoroughly after heavy rain - Note there is a footpath from the parking spot to the cache that by-passes the ford altogether if you don't want to get your feet wet, and is recommended after heavy rains when of course it could be treacherous

If doing the series of caches on Canwell estate, the walk is approx 3.5miles, and will take a couple of hours. There are some unusual hides on this walk.

Note: If doing the series of caches on this walk, at this time of year (after the field shave been ploughed) the path's aren't always obvious - especially between Oakey Dokey 1 and 2 - suggest using the waypoint 52°36.635'N, 1°46.864'W to help find the path so as not to hassle the farmer (the footpath has apparently been moved 10 years ago and the OS maps aren't updated) - we have also added a map showing the paths to help
