Geocache Description:

The coordinates will take you near a nice little park in downtown Charlotte next to the Hall House, a home for homeless women and their children.

Once upon a time the place to stay when visiting Charlotte was at the Barringer Hotel on North Tryon St. It was opened in 1940 and continued to accept guests until 1975 when it closed under the name Cavalier Inn. It was a modern, convenient, and elegant place to stay. Among other conveniences all 325 rooms had running ice water and bath tub and shower. The public rooms were floored with oriental rugs. Movie stars, politicians, and businessmen called the Barringer home while visiting Charlotte. Any performer playing at the nearby Carolina Theater stayed there.

The City of Charlotte purchased the hotel in 1978 for public housing for the elderly where it exists today with the name Hall House. It has recently been refurbished, with the help of volunteers, as a temporary home for homeless women and their children.

NOTE: Please access the cache from the parking lot. The small park, as nice and accessable as it is, is a private one for the residents and staff of Hall House.
