Just a quick little hide near the Klondike Bluffs Mountain Bike Trails.
I grew up in Moab and have driven by here MANY times. You can see this flat topped rock from the highway and today I decided to place a cache out here.
This rock is located about 13 miles North of Moab on Highway 191. The rock itself is a large flat rock, Black on the top, the softer rocks underneath it have been eroded away leaving a slab about 12 inches thick and 15 feet across. You can crawl underneath the rock if you dare.
JUST REMEMBER: GRAVITY WORKS!! AND SOME DAY EROSION WILL TAKE ITS TOLL ON THE SOFTER ROCKS BELOW AND THIS ROCK WILL FALL.
The cache can be reached by leaving the highway at the Klondike Bluffs road and crossing the cattle guard. There is a gravel parking area just beyond the fence line. Park here,
N 38* 44.509 W 109* 43.955
Then take the trail heading south, and once you reach the top of the small hill you can head out to the cache. I have placed the cache West of the Flat Rock. That way you don't need to crawl under the rock to retrieve the cache. Look for some other large, flat, black rocks on the ground. The container is a plastic jar hidden underneath and protected from view by another rock.
I want this to be a fun cache, for the kids to see some unusual rocks up close and have a chance to get out and play.
I placed a couple of TB's in the cache and some Oakcoin items and other small tradeable's. Enjoy, ejoty
