Geocache Description:

This is a cemetery offset cache. You will need to drive a short distance, and take a short walk, in order to find the final.

This cemetery has a remarkable collection of interesting stones. At the posted coordinates and the listed reference points, you will find various headstones. You are looking for four different headstones for:

August and Anna Beilfuss. Let Anna's year of death = XXXC
August Raasch. Let his year of death = AXXX
Arthur Krueger. Let his year of death = BXXF
Robert Kroning. Let his year of death = XDEX

These stones are pictured below (but you don't need the pictures if you don't have them).

Two hands clasped = Symbolism for holy matrimony.

This is a "petrified" tree, symbolizing life cut short and/or the head of the family.

A fantastic scuplture, unusual in that it is not an angel.

A very nice Veteran's stone. Note that he was killed in action in Germany.

The cache is located at:

N 44 44.AEB
W 88 21.DEB

There are many rural cemeteries in Wisconsin. Geocaching is a great way to get out and see some of these remote places, discover some interesting and unique markers, and to help ensure that those that have gone before us are not forgotten. With cemetery caches, the cache container is not hidden on or connected in any way to any grave site or marker. Occasionally, some information from a marker may be used to obtain final cache coordinates. Please be respectful of the cemetery and anyone visiting it.

About the WSQ-SCC Series

WSQ stands for "Wisconsin Spirit Quest, which is used by many Wisconsin cemetery cache owners. SCC stands for Shawano County Cemeteries, and the number between the two represents the location of the cemetery on a master map, which you can find by clicking HERE. The name after SCC is the name of the Township, then comes the name of the cemetery.

There are over 100 cemeteries in Shawano County, and nearly all have geocaches in them, bringing new visitors to these places to remember those who have gone before us. You just might find a long-lost relative or two.

These caches are designed to be easy to find, are usually a container and log only, and focus on “forgotten,” out-of-the-way, rural cemeteries. Also, any multi-stage caches are designed to bring you to special features of a particular cemetery.

Winter availability: On a snowmobile trail. Findable in up to about 18 inches of snow.

The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to Dave Hanson of the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR Notification form and land manager information can be obtained at: http://www.wi-geocaching.com/hiding
