So...Welcome To Odcombe!
Odcombe is split between Higher and Lower parts. Odcombe has its own micro-brewery at the Masons Arms in Lower Odcombe.
It also has a famous son, Thomas Coryate, (1579 - 1617) who walked thousands of miles in his lifetime and is thought to be the first travel writer, and was also credited with introducing the fork to England. He completed the first 'Grand Tour' of Europe, walking almost 2000 miles, and hung his boots up in the church on his return. Today a hamstone replica hangs in their place.
A final 'fascinating fact' is that Odcombe is just one of 15 villages in England with a living tradition of singing its own carols. Odcombe has a set of 12, passed down for at least 150 years.
Enjoy your walk around Odcombe, please post a pic of the village in your log if possible.
We suggest you park by the church in Higher Odcombe, then follow the GPS to find the final cache, which when placed had various small swaps, and a christmas FTF prize. It's not in any walls.
We are planning a bonus cache for the Hamstone Village series - make a note of the letters in the log book and keep them safe!
