Geocache Description:

Located at a boat landing/park area just at the edge of the town limits of North, S.C.
Terrain is even and level. Container is a signature PnA "customized" box in a plastic ziplock. No, it is NOT on the gazebo, nor in the river.

This is #113 in our looooong series honoring(?) SC Geocachers.

It is also #16 in our "WEIRD SC" Series which will consist of caches placed at locations where either ghosts, unknown creatures, or just plain weird things have occurred or exist.
We think our State Motto should change to "Smiling Faces, Haunted Places".

What can one say about "The Baron"?
Besides the fact that he is a charter member of Geocaching.com and a Water Equipment Consultant, he is a highly intelligent dude with a water attitude!

And he put out one of Aries favorite virtuals,
Area 51 - SC (GCD7ED) , as well as Breakaway (GCK20G), Low Fidelity (GCTV1X), and Vanishing Island(GCC463) just to mention a few.

One thing you can always count on with a Waterbaron cache is a well placed, well thought out cache that will leave you wanting more of them.

We placed this one in an area we felt would suit him, and it ain't a micro!!!!!!

As for this location, it is one of the prettiest little park/boat landings you have ever seen. The beautiful river flowing gently past it....the green grass alongside the river.... the beautiful woods around it......the spectral bodies of slain Union soldiers floating down the river.......

Did you see them?

As the local story goes during Sherman's occupation of this area (See
Mad-Eye: Shermans Gold GC1HY9W) a group of Union soldiers had buried gold in the area stolen from local townspeople. The people later rose up and killed the small group of soldiers, tossing their bodies into the river.

While these ghosts are supposedly seen riding with the slaves who helped them bury it in a buggy some 5 to 6 miles away they are also said to be seen floating down the river past the landing area, the river running red with their blood. It is said that if you touch the water while they are visible you will die within 24 hours.

Must be some kinda ghostly water thing!

Many a local teen has gone with his girlfriend late at night to scare her with this tale, as the North Police will quickly tell you they have to run a lot of them out of here at night.

Well, Aries didn't see anything while he was at this site, but he was there in the early evening, as the sun was going down. And there was this strange splashing sound in the river......but he wrote down the coordinates and hopped in his vehicle. Content to leave that one alone!
