Geocache Description:

This cache is posted as a travel bug and geocoin terminal at Holland's Tulip City Airport.

It is located with a great view of the airport beacon on the north side of the airport. The beacon always operates at night but is also on during the day when the weather is poor. If the clouds are lower than 1000 feet or the visibility is reduced to less than three miles the beacon is on in daytime. This tells pilots that the weather conditions require them to fly by instrument flight rules, (or IFR) and not visual flight rules that are possible in better weather.

Tulip city airport is located on 521 acres of land that the City of Holland purchased in 1986. It's single runway is longer than a mile at 6001 feet and is served by navigational aids that make it possible to land in very poor weather. This is a link (visit link) to a GPS navigation procedure that pilots use to find the airport.

During your visit to the Travel Bug Terminal the odds are good that you will see an airplane take off or land because this airport is the 18th busiest of all of Michigan's 232 airports. You can plan your visit to see a currently scheduled arrival or departure by consulting this web page: (visit link)

This cache placed with the permission of airport management and is known to the airport maintenance personnel.
