Geocache Description:

Located off of Hwy 321 at the "Welcome To Denmark" sign at the small park. The grass is high and the picnic tables are pretty rough, but overall the area is level terrain.
Container is a camoed match tube.
PLENTY of parking.

This is #17 in our "WEIRD SC" Series which will consist of caches placed at locations where either ghosts, unknown creatures, or just plain weird things have occurred or exist.
We think our State Motto should change to "Smiling Faces, Haunted Places".

While working nearby this little picnic park Aries was advised about it by a County Deputy Sheriff;

"Lot of young-un's hang out there at night 'cause they say you can see the haint in the woods."

Intrigued, Aries asked the deputy more about the stories.

"It ain't nothin' ever'body 'round here don't know," the deputy said, "Back 'round 1910 or 1915 a group of wood loaders was filling a train car with fresh cut logs when a chain broke, spilling tons of logs onto the workers. When the dust cleared 2 were dead, 4 injured, but one was missin'. The foreman and remaining workers searched the woods around the area for over 6 hours, but couldn't find the missing man anywhere. Townsfolk even came out that night and lit fires and searched the whole night through, but not hide nor hair was found."

"So they never found the missing worker?" Aries asked.

"Well, the story goes that several other workers did see him run into the woods; and that he was holding his wrist and a-hollerin' as he run." the Deputy responded, "And they DID find his hand smooshed up under one of the logs. But the blood drops from his bleedin' wrist ran to the edge of the woods then stopped, like he just disapeared into thin air.
People gave up lookin' fer him after a few weeks; his wife and children moved to Barnwell, and pretty soon the folks round here forgot about it, least 'till one year after the accident."
"Thats when people started hearing moans and seeing a green light moving real fast-like through the woods at night. It got to be so regular after that that people would come and sit out all night to see it, so they say."
"People reported feeling a tug on their left hand; the one that the long forgotten worker lost, you know, like he was tryin' to get his missin' hand back."
"But i ain't heard of nobody seeing anything recently around here; just a couple of teenagers that claimed to see lights, but they had been smokin' that wacky tobbaccy ifn ya know what i mean."

After showing Aries around the little park/picnic area and helping secure permission to hide the cache; the Deputy went back to the park with Aries to hide the cache.

After placing it and explaining the process to him, the deputy looked at Aries and wide eyed asked....
"Ain't none of them Gee-O-Casher's dumb enough to come get this here thing at dark, are they" he asked.
"Well, Aries replied, most of them i know would, why?"

"Cause, that there haint might think their hand is his when they reach fer it an they might lose it!"
