*** Congrats to SBK & Wingit for a Frigid-FTF*** NO LONGER HAVE TO DO OTHER ELT CACHES to do this one; Final Coords: N 41° 20.166′ W 72° 23.470′. Off Route 154 in Essex. Parking for 3-4 vehicles at the trailhead. Open dawn to dusk. Fairly easy terrain with no steep elevations; a couple of stream crossings; picturesque pond views; less than one mile round trip. Container is a large lock & lock.
Welcome to my ELT geocache series. I have gone on several preserve hikes in the past sponsored by the Essex Land Trust and would like to share these wonderful “pocket parks” with my fellow geocachers. The ELT preserve trails are all generally easy to follow with colored markers on the trees. There are a total of five caches in this series, each in its own preserve: James Glen, Tiley Pratt Pond, Windswept Ridge, Fern Ledge, and Heron Pond. The whole series could probably be completed in 4-5 hours, if you’re so inclined. Have fun!
Stash:
Due to the government’s refusal to offer me a bailout, I no longer give out gift cards for FTF. However, here’s a list of goodies you can choose from that were stocked among all the caches:
Starting Your Garden DVD, 3 Outlet Swivel Wall Tap, AA Batteries, Book Light, Bungee Cords, Pullback Racing Cars, Cork Screw/Bottle Opener, Doggy Tennis Balls, Electrical Tape, Glue Sticks, Santa Claus, Color Pencils, Nerf Football, Backpack Caribiners, Super Glue, Six Color Crayon Wheel, Glow Sticks, Masking Tape, Clip-on Flashlight, Cable Ties.
Trail Notes:
Trailhead sometimes floods due to close proximity to the pond but it’s easy to get around. There are many trails in here, but one nice loop hike is yellow-green-yellow. Only bummer here is the traffic noise from nearby Route 9. Re-checked coordinates on two visits.
