The 13.49 mile Contra Costa Canal Trail intercepts a number of local parks in Pleasant Hill (Las Juntas Park), Walnut Creek (Larkey Park, Heather Farm Park), and Concord (Lime Ridge). It also connects to a number of regional trails, including the California State Riding and Hiking Trail, Briones-to-Mt. Diablo Trail, and the Iron Horse Trail. So there are plenty of miles for hiking, biking and just wandering around.
The water carried in the canal gets pumped in from the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta near Rock Slough. After it gets treated in Martinez, it becomes the water supply to that city and many others. Hopefully in the future, the delta pumps and dams upstream will be kinder to the salmon and other fish during their seasonal migrations and spawns…
This cache is located on the canal trail and is close to Bancroft Rd. There's plenty of parking in the adjacent shopping center. The muggle traffic here can get heavy at times, so you might have to go into stealth mode. Bring a pen.
Congrats RV CREW for the FTF!
