Geocache Description:

The Maryland Municipal League Geocache Trail
Celebrating Maryland’s Cities and Towns.
MML District 1

The printed MML Passport is no longer available. However, you may download a copy from the MML website here.

The trail consists of 11 MML Districts (regions).
The MML Geocache Trail project will launch January 1, 2009 with 78 participating cities and towns. A trackable geo coin will be given to the first 500 geocachers as an incentive for locating at least 2 municipal caches in each of the 11 districts. To be eligible for the coin, geocachers must pick up a Passport at any of the designated county visitor centers. Geocachers must use the stamp in the cache on their Passports and write down the cache code word listed in each cache. After at least two municipal caches in each district are discovered, geocachers may return to one of the county visitor centers and have their Passports validated to receive their collectable coin.

For a complete list of participating visitor centers visit the MML web site at http://www.mdmunicipal.org/mmlhome/index.cfm or MGS web site at www.mdgps.org.

Living in Snow Hill, Maryland, is small town living at its best. Nestled on the south banks of the Pocomoke River, Snow Hill is a place where people know each other. From the people who call it home, to the business owners and those in government, we have built a community where life is gentle, fun, and prosperous. Home to a quaint downtown retail area and a broad spectrum of recreational activities, Snow Hill is the perfect place to spend a relaxing weekend or a lifetime.

Whether you are interested in researching your genealogy in the Worcester Room of the Worcester County Library, kayaking on an undeveloped natural river, or studying the architecture of historic homes and beautiful churches while taking the Historic Walking Tour, Snow Hill has something for everyone. You will find recreational opportunities in Byrd Park and Sturgis Park, artifacts at the Julia A. Purnell Museum, and treasures in the shops and art galleries.

The beautiful rural setting boasts rich farmland that has been the mainstay of the economy of the county seat of Worcester County for centuries. The rich heritage of this area is celebrated daily at Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum and during the summer festival every August with The Blessing of the Combines.

The town of Snow Hill welcomes you as you explore our small town steeped in history and tradition but alive with charm and activities.

The Mount Zion One Room School House was built in 1869 near Whiton, Maryland, and used as a school until 1931. It stood empty until Dr. Paul Cooper, Superintendent of Schools, had the building moved to Snow Hill. It was opened to the public in 1964, and has since demonstrated to students and visitors how their forebears were taught in the days of the one room schools. Donations of 19th century texts and furnishings make a visit to the school a leap back in time. McGuffy readers, quill pens, inkwells, slates, and a water bucket are in place just as if the students had been dismissed yesterday.

Thank You for Visiting Snow Hill
