Geocache Description:

Midnight, as December 20 changes to December 21. Grab a plate of something warm and perhaps a cup of coffee and celebrate the fact that from here on into summer each day will bring more hours of daylight for caching.

"In the deep of the darkest night, there's a beacon of yellow light..."

Today the winter solstice is a simple scientific fact. Our hemisphere reaches it's furthest tilt away from the sun, causing the longest night of the year and the shortest day. From now until the summer solstice in June, each day will be longer than the one before, and each night shorter.

Well before the astronomical explanation was known, humans in many different cultures nevertheless made note of this annual occurrence and celebrated it with many different ways of symbolizing the victory of light over darkness (more info here).

Many celebrations involve gathering together around fires which burn all night long on the longest night of the year. To find this event, just allow yourself to be drawn to the yellow light which burns all night long every night of the year. We will be waiting for you there.

It was fun everyone! Here is the log.
