Geocache Description:

The Maryland Municipal League Geocache Trail
Celebrating Maryland’s Cities and Towns.
MML District 5

The printed MML Passport is no longer available. However, you may download a copy from the MML website here.

The stamp for this MML hide is missing! Please stamp your passport using a stamp from another cache within the district.

The trail consists of 11 MML Districts (regions).
The MML Geocache Trail project will launch January 1, 2009 with 78 participating cities and towns. A trackable geo coin will be given to the first 500 geocachers as an incentive for locating at least 2 municipal caches in each of the 11 districts. To be eligible for the coin, geocachers must pick up a Passport at any of the designated county visitor centers. Geocachers must use the stamp in the cache on their Passports and write down the cache code word listed in each cache. After at least two municipal caches in each district are discovered, geocachers may return to one of the county visitor centers and have their Passports validated to receive their collectable coin.

For a complete list of participating visitor centers visit the MML web site at http://www.mdmunicipal.org/mmlhome/index.cfm or MGS web site at www.mdgps.org.

The City of Gaithersburg has a rich history that includes a Native American trail that is now Route 355. This “Great Road” became a major trail for people moving west. The oldest building in Gaithersburg is thought to be the Smoke House in the area known as Summit Hall Farm Park. Early Gaithersburg was a supplier of lumber and tobacco; hence it was called “Log Town.” Gaithersburg continued to develop and the railroad, which cut across the northern part of the Summit Hall Farm, was completed in 1873.

Gaithersburg has continued to grow and now has a population of over 60,000 residents. Today, the major economic activities are biotechnology, telecommunications, and software development. Many of these activities are related to Federal Government contracts. Because of Gaithersburg's proximity to the Nation's Capital and these major industries, the City hosts many visitors, both foreign and domestic.

The cache is hidden in Bohrer Park, which contains several open fields, a playground area, a horseshoe pit, a volleyball net, and two ponds along with a miniature golf course, an activity center, a skate park and a water park. The park also contains the oldest standing building in the City of Gaithersburg: The Log Smoke House.

The cache you seek is a 3 quart Lock n Lock which contains a log, Gaithersburg Signature items and a special FTF prize!
