Ada's Stonehenge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wood_Rat: Well, it’s finally come to the point where I cannot physically maintain my caches in a timely manner. I am unable to get out of the house since mid-July due to medical reasons and things won’t be changing anytime soon.

So, I am going to archive my caches and make these spots available.

If you are going to adopt a location, please send me a note and I’ll give you spoilers so that you can remove my old container. I just cannot physically do it any longer.

Thanks for Hunting!

Geocache Description:

My first hide!

Ada's Stonehenge

I met Ada one day as I was checking on a nearby cache. She was down in Penitencia Creek, cutting tree roots and clearing downed branches to improve water flow ahead of the winter rains. It's just what she does. She is an older, no nonsense kind of girl and I took a liking to her right away. Ada gave me a brief tour of the creek, including her hidden rock garden; she obviously knows this creek very well and cheerfully pointed out where the fish like to swim – and there are some surprisingly big fish in those places. After having a leisurely and pleasant chat about everything and nothing at all, she pointed out a large rock formation across the field and invited me to visit her creation. It's a labor of love.

Imagine eight large stones in a circle, 15 yards across, surrounding one large, red central stone. Two more stones – actually both halves of a huge stone that accidentally broke as it was being placed – about 30 yards to the SE point toward Mt Hamilton when viewed from the center of the stone circle. The stone circle is surrounded by four pepper trees alternating with four olive trees. It's difficult to describe what you'll see when you visit this little known wonder. I can't imagine how amazing Ada's Stonehenge will be in another 10 or 15 years as the trees mature further.

Sit on a stone and relax while you enjoy the view of Mt Hamilton and the east foothills after grabbing this bison tube. This cache is tethered, so just unscrew it to sign the log. Afterward, please tuck it back into its hidey spot. Then, head over to 37° 23.174'N, 121° 51.097'W to see Ada's secret rock garden.

Congratulations to Rocket Girl for FTF!
