Almost a park and grab. Flat, scenic, and very family friendly.
Look for a new metal and wood footbridge in the Standing Indian area of the Nantahala National Forest. It is 3.2 miles from the intersection of the Forest Service's Standing Indian Road and Old U.S. 64 west of Franklin, NC. During the winter, this section of the gravel road beyond the back country information parking area may be closed to vehicles. However, it is only an almost level 1.1 mile hike to the cache area if the gate is closed. The cache is about the size of a cigarette pack and contains only a log. The bridge crosses the head waters of the Nantahala River. It is also a trail head. Look for a gravel parking area on the right which is ringed by large rocks. The cache contains only a log. The bridge is in sight of the parking area. There are several caches in the Standing Indian area. Some are difficult while others are almost a park and grab. There are primitive and developed camping areas in the neighborhood.
Beautiful area.
Have fun and don't give up.
