Nobody gets the jump on Claire when it comes to catching frogs! But Claire's a generous girl and loves to share. To help others in the pursuit of hoppiness, Claire has placed this cache at one of her favorite frog bogs. If you seek this cache in the Spring, you probably won't need your GPS at all--just follow the calls of the amorous amphibians. Don't forget to sign the Frog-log!
Cache is full of frog-gear, so even if you're not able to catch one, you won't leave empty handed! We ask that you leave the Field Guide To Frogs in the cache for all to enjoy.
Cache is at the West border of the SUCO campus past the soccer fields. You can walk the trail from Hunt Union, or park off West Street across from Job Corp. The cache site, though filled with construction debris, has a certain wild quality to it which is inspiring if viewed in the proper spirit. Thousands of frogs can't be wrong!
CLAIRE'S FROG CATCHING TIPS:
1. Look for Frog's eyes sticking up over the surface of the water. Frogs aren't bothered by muddy, slimey water, so neither should you!
2. Approach Frog with stealth. It is best to lower your body to a croach to avoid detection.
3. Encircle Frog with both hands to a distance of about 6 inches--then grab and hold on tight!
4. Frog is very slippery and will try to wriggle free! Do not allow this! As soon as possible, relocate to dry land so that if Frog does slip from your grasp, you'll be able to recapture before it escapes.
5. Show Frog off to your admiring family and friends. Frog will likely have calmed down by now, and can be gently passed around.
6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 to catch additiional frogs.
7. Claire does not recommend keeping frogs from their pond for more than 15 minutes. After that, tell them goodbye (you may give them a kiss if you wish) and place them back in the water. You can always return to catch them again another day!
