The 4 corners of Paphos + 1
(comprising 4 stages and a bonus)
South Point
Welcome to a series of caches we have called "The 4 corners of
Paphos +1". This will take you on a journey through the westernmost
district of Cyprus. At each point, North, South, East and West, you
will collect some clues. These will help you work out the
coordinates to the bonus cache in the Centre. We have planned it in
such a way that if you wish you should be able to take all 5 in a
day without having to back track too much, but of course, it is not
a must. A saloon car can do the trip, but at least for the Akamas
stage we strongly recommend 4x4 transportation. The suggested route
would start at the East Point, which should suit those of you
residing around Limassol/Nicosia area. Continue to South Point,
then West Point in the Akamas, and North Point before the bonus
Centre Point. This being an island, some of the points would be
close to water, wouldn’t they, so those caches have been placed
some hundred or so meters from the map point to stop them being
swept out at sea during the first winter storm. So, here we go!
The route to this cache is along another spectacular stretch of
coast. Here Aphrodite is said to have emerged from the sea. It is
surprising that there is no geological relation of the rock in the
water with the adjacent rock formations. According to tradition,
the rock was thrown there by the Byzantine hero Digenis Akritas. It
doesn't say why. Perhaps he was just bad tempered.
The cache contains the usual logbook, pen, FTF certificate and a
scratch card lottery ticket. Don't forget to write down the clues!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A SAFE ACCESS TO THE CACHE SO NO CLIMBING
NECESSARY!
