A tribute to the pioneer of women's education; a true dinosaur who stood both strong and tall, Emma Hart Willard.
In this day and age it's easy to forget how once upon a time women were denied an education. They were molded to be nothing more than housewives and the bearer of children. Emma Willard was someone who defied this stereotype by standing up to society, later earning her place as an icon during the national movement for women's rights.
To honor Emma Willard and experience an enjoyable walk through a neighborhood I once lived, I put together this mystery cache. There are a few virtual stages that lead potential seekers to historic sites throughout the college, where a final location awaits along the outer edge of campus.
The posted coordinates are significant. This location is the site of America's first permanent seminary for the advanced education of women, established in 1821. In front of you is a monument erected in her honor, in which it states, "Emma Willard's most enduring monument is the gratitude of educated women everywhere."
