Geocache Description:

The "Boonies" series of caches are designed to get everyone to explore areas you may have never traveled before. Get out and get some exercise and enjoy nature!

This cache is located in Ethel Woods. There are no defined parking areas here (not yet) in this beautiful 486 acre preserve, but you can park at the end of Kelly Road (which is a dead-end road). Follow the path behind the guard rail. There are some pipes sticking out of the ground if you follow the first foot path north....be careful!. Follow the second foot path north and you won't have those problems.

Rasmussen Lake was formed from the construction of a dam across Old Mill Creek in 1957. The outflow creates strong rapids along the stream corridor downstream of the dam. The stream winds through box elder, cottonwood, weeping willow, green ash trees, and other flora. This area provides valuable wildlife habitat and food sources for a variety of birds, mammals, and reptiles.
The combination of the Ethel Wood’s massive woodland (acres of century-old bur oak, white oak, shagbark hickory, and black walnut trees) and its serpentine-shaped Rasmussen Lake offers a picturesque landscape reminiscent of a northwoods setting.

Bring something to write with to sign the log and have fun on your journey!
