Geocache Description:

PhotobucketPillboxes at RAF Southrop

Photobucket

The best Pillboxes I've ever seen.

My son and I were having a great time shooting out of the holes with pretend guns.

If you didn't know the history behind these pillboxes you would wonder why they were in an small secluded woodland.

I can't seem to find the full history. But what little I do know is this.

Whilst investigating RAF Broadwell, somebody said check out Southrop which was a relief airfeild to RAF Brize Norton.
Brize is actually older than Broadwell and Southrop however these two airfields were shutdown after the war.

Check out Macaroni Woods, there is a Water Tower, old buildings and probably much more.

The Cache is situated in a small wood just off the bridal path.
The bridal path is the old taxi runway which went around the airfield. The wood is gated and has an open wood cabin with well walked paths leading up to the Pillboxes.
