Geocache Description:

Just for those days when you don't want to get muddy but still want to go caching....This cache is part of the Downtown / Main Street USA series! I had hoped to be the first to bring this to Indiana as I had tried the Downtown Metuchen, NJ one almost a year ago. However, notice I said tried . I was going to wait to start the series here until I found it and Clara Barton the very first of the series. Since that time it has been started in this state, so I decided to give it a shot anyway. TwoCat has some great hides if you ever make it his way.

This cache is located just off of Main Street in Lafayette. A little history on Lafayette, IN. Native Americans and the French were in this area dating back to the early 1700's. The town was named after General Lafayette, a French military hero, who aided the American Forces in the Revolutionary War. It became the seat of Tippecanoe County in 1826. In the mid 1800's Lafayette was known for being a shipping town (Wabash & Erie Canal) as wall as a railroad town (Monon RR). A little known fact is that Lafayette is also the take-off area for the 1st Airmail delivery on 8/17/1859. Transportation was via a balloon. Take some time to walk around downtown while you are here. Or come during one of the many festivals.

Bring your own pen to log this cache. Please put it back exactly the way it belongs so others can enjoy.

Our hope is that new Downtown / Main Street USA caches will start popping up all over the USA. You too can place one:

1. Find a Downtown and/or Main Street and place your cache.

2. Name the Cache: “Downtown / Main Street USA: (town name, state)”

3. In the cache description include the following paragraph: “This cache is part of the “Downtown / Main Street USA" series. Please visit the cache that started it all - Downtown / Main Street USA: Edison, NJ. Here you will find the latest count of caches in the series and find out how you can add your own."

4. When your cache gets approved, e-mail us the waypoint and we will add it to the list of Downtown / Main Street USA caches on this cache page.

NOTES:
You do not need to open the electrical boxes to find this cache. It is also not in the dumpsters. It does not have a light on it. It is also not a nano, it is a micro. Do not mess with the card reader, that's not it either. Now that we've narrowed it down some, good luck!
