Geocache Description:

Just for those days when you don't want to get muddy but still want to go caching....This cache is part of the Downtown / Main Street USA series! I had hoped to be the first to bring this to Indiana as I had tried the Downtown Metuchen, NJ one almost a year ago. However, notice I said tried . I was going to wait to start the series here until I found it and Clara Barton the very first of the series. Since that time it has been started in this state, so I decided to give it a shot anyway. TwoCat has some great hides if you ever make it his way.

This cache is located on Main Street in Monticello. Yes believe it or not, "There is more than corn in Indiana". Ever hear the black crow recite that famous saying? Well here's his home, at the Indiana Beach Amusement Park.

A little more history on Monticello, it was founded by the White County Commissioners in 1834. Monticello was incorporated as a town in 1862 and it became a city in 1909. It is now the County seat of White County. It is a popular summer vacationing spot, especially after Lake Shafer and Lake Freeman were created by building dams in the 1920's. Portions of Monticello had to be rebuilt after it was hit by an F4 tornado on April 3, 1974. Enjoy the many shops and restaurants while you are downtown. The historic Sportsman Inn is right across the river as well.

Bring your own pen to log this cache. Please put it back exactly the way it belongs so others can enjoy. I don't know if it's true or not, but someone once told me it is illegal to ride your bicycle on the sidewalk downtown and that they issue tickets if you do. Might want to keep that in mind, or plead ignorant if you are from out of town.

Our hope is that new Downtown / Main Street USA caches will start popping up all over the USA. You too can place one:

1. Find a Downtown and/or Main Street and place your cache.

2. Name the Cache: “Downtown / Main Street USA: (town name, state)”

3. In the cache description include the following paragraph: “This cache is part of the “Downtown / Main Street USA" series. Please visit the cache that started it all - Downtown / Main Street USA: Edison, NJ. Here you will find the latest count of caches in the series and find out how you can add your own."

4. When your cache gets approved, e-mail us the waypoint and we will add it to the list of Downtown / Main Street USA caches on this cache page.

UPDATED 1/27/09:
The cache has been moved from its original location. It is still on Main Street, but it's on the outskirts of Downtown. Due to another cache in the area the original needed to be moved and there was only 1 direction to move it and still be Downtown. So it is much easier now, I didn't have near as many options as to what to do with it here, nor can I spy on you now. If the other spot opens up at some point, I may move it back, until then enjoy Monticello. The difficulty will change depending on the time of year, which will affect the muggles!! Please becareful with the container, these have been known to break. DO NOT cache after dark for this one and you DO NOT need to be within 5' of the building itself (at least not while searching for the cache, feel free to drop in otherwise .
