Outta the Park Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

sandlanders: The new ball diamond is not being worked on until spring. Therefore, we are archiving this cache in its current location and recreating it to a degree in a spot that will hopefully be out of foul ball territory. Thank you to all who visited, and come back to seek out the new cache.

Geocache Description:

Looking for a camo-covered 28-oz. peanut butter jar. Room for geocoins and small trade items. DO NOT SEEK THIS CACHE AT NIGHT. DOGS MUST BE ON A LEASH.

In the middle 1970s, benefactor Burton Morris donated land in an undeveloped area in the City of Adams for a Little League Park. The baseball diamond and the tennis courts were the first things to go up in the park, and later came some playground equipment and some wood-chipped walking trails, along with two more playing fields. A picnic/gathering shelter was also built, and the ball diamonds got upgrades with dugouts and scoreboards. Summer-use bathrooms get a workout during ball season.

With all of the work that has gone on in the park and surrounding area, the trails are mostly gone now, but a new trail is in the works to connect an assisted living center and the newer senior housing units to the community center/library and the shopping center (in which the first store opened in 1998).

This place is busy most evenings from May through July, with all the diamonds being used for Little League and softball practice and/or games, and there are often gatherings at the shelter or tennis players on the courts. There are three parking areas, with the closest one to this cache being the extension of College Street; however, the city dumps excess snow there in the winter.

Burt Morris continues to provide for the well-being of the City of Adams, and it is for him this park is named.

Available in winter, but harder to find in deep snow.
Park hours are dawn to dusk.
