The Village of Steinauer (pronounced "Steener") was named after three brothers from Switzerland, who immigrated to the area in 1856 (two years after the creation of the 'Nebraska Territory'). The post office was established in 1874 and by 1910, Steinauer reached its peak population of 248. Today it is a small village with neat properties and an impressive Catholic church. NOTE - this sign is also a waymark, if you are interested. NevaP waymarked it - see Village of Steinauer (WM2K1H)
