Pending Legal Action Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

IronHorseReviewer: [Greetings from Geocaching.com

It looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While we feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from hiding new geocaches around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. Therefore we are archiving this cache so that someone else can place a cache in the area and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. If you haven't done so already, please pick up any remaining cache pieces as soon as possible.

If you are in the process of replacing or repairing your cache please e-mail me in response to this archival, and I will assist you in getting your cache re-listed if possible.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and look forward to seeing your caches up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:

First in our series called "A Day on the Big Six," this cache is a regular sized screw-top rubbermaid hidden behind the UK Scott Street Building. Near this location those on The Big Six start every third day.

THIS CACHE IS NOT LOCATED ON THE PROPERTY OF THE FIRE STATION. DO NOT PARK AT THE FIRE STATION. This cache is hidden on a cut-through path used by students who park in the Scott Street parking lot. It is behind the Scott Street Building. Enter the path from Arby's or from the Scott Street parking lot at the additional waypoint coordinates listed. Stealth may be required depending on the time of day and whether or not school is in session. Weekends, evenings and nights may be your best bet. Parking may be difficult because if you linger too long you may find your ride being towed.

The area where the cache is hidden is rich in history but is about to undergo a major change. The Scott Street Building is slated to be torn down and UK plans to build their new Law Building in its place and over most of the adjacent parking lot.

The area between where you are standing and the fire station was once the training center for the Lexington Fire Department before it was replaced with the current training center on Old Frankfort Pike. The original part of the fire station dates back to 1916 and was originally home to a horse-drawn fire wagon. Until the three bay section was added in 1986, a single bay opened onto South Limestone Street. The bay opening was turned into a large picture window in the remodel and is visible from the South Limestone side. The station currently houses an engine company, an emergency care unit and a reserve engine company.

It is no secret that the University of Kentucky is expanding and that this fire station is on a prime piece of real estate. When potential designs for the new Law Building were released last year the fire station remained in only half of the renderings. It is possible that this station could be moved in coming years to another nearby location as the Law Building is slated to open around 2012.

Also coming through this area in the next few years is the Newtown Pike Extension Project. This project will extend Newtown Pike from its current intersection with Main Street and connect it to South Limestone at Scott Street. This project is projected to be done around 2014.

Please be gentle with the cache container's tether and gently remove the cache from its hiding place. We plan to keep this one well-stocked with travelers so return visits to move them along are encouraged.

Congrats to IJump for the FTF, and thank you for your service!!
