Geocache Description:

NOTE: This cache will be archived no later than August 2nd. If I get a chance, I will collect the container and archive it on August 1st. This is due to the pending temporary but lengthy closure of Waterton Canyon.

NOTE : After a significant rain, this cache will be harder to get to since this side "trail" in places is also a creek bed. In fact, if there have been recent rains, the first crossing of the creek could be quite challenging.

ANOTHER NOTE: 07/13/2009 - I recently had a bout with poison ivy and I suspect that it was on a visit to this cache that I encountered it. So, be on the lookout for it if you go to this cache.

Waterton Canyon is a favorite of mine for cycling. I have noticed quite a few side trails that I doubt many people visit. This cache is in one of those in Cottonwood Gulch. There is no need for bushwhacking or trailblazing. The camoed plastic container is very close to the existing trail.

I found that my GPS reception had 20' accuracy. Therefore, you might need to read the hint. If your GPS gives you a better reading, feel free to include your coordinates in the log. I will recheck them the next time I go up there.

It is a hike of about 2.25 miles one way from the parking area to the cache. I recommend a bicycle so that you can also get some of the other caches in the canyon. You can ride a little ways down the side trail on your bike but then you'll have to leave it behind. I don't think there will be any issue with leaving it behind - I doubt if you'll see anyone else on this trail.

I have included a waypoint at the trailhead. The cache is about 500 feet down the trail from this trailhead. This trail is not snow friendly.

If you see any interesting wildlife, please make note of it in your log.
