This hill is shown on local hiking maps as Signal Rocks. I'm not familiar with the history of the name, but it's possible that it is a reference to the signal beacons set up by the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War to warn Washington's army of British troop movements.
I've often wondered why this was shown on the maps at all and decided to take a look, and brought a cache along. Found some very nice views around the summit of the hill. Placed the cache at the nicest one.
Summit is covered with wild blueberry and blackberry bushes (the latter are very thorny) so I'd advise against wearing your good pantyhose on this cache hunt. Shorts are probably a bad idea as well. There are some animal paths through the brush so if you pick your way carefully you can reach the cache relatively unscathed.
The cache can be accessed from the Stonetown Circular trail, or from a pullout along Burnt Meadow Rd just north of the last homes before the rough section.
