Geocache Description:

A new trail through an old growth forest.

The cache name would be a good statement about what we should be doing with our 401ks right now (11/08). Fortunately, this cache has nothing to do with finances and could actually help you relax if you happen to peak at your statement.

The walk to the cache (ammo can with swag) will take you through a beautiful stretch of old growth forest that is 150-200 years. This cache is on the new Long Creek Trail.

The trail entrance is a little undefined but it is located behind Youth Alternatives in the Brickhill area. If you turn right on to Westbrook Street after you pass Pape Chevrolet you will soon see Brickhill Ave on the right. Take the right. Once on Brickhill Ave look for Red Oak Drive on the right. Take the right on to Red Oak Drive. Follow the road and you will come to the sign for Youth Alternatives. Enter the lot and go to the parking coordinates in the back.

Whether you can park here or not is not well defined. The lot was empty on the weekend. If you go to the coordinates listed and walk down over the bank a short distance you will be on the trail. There is a drainage pipe near where the trail begins.

As you walk along the trail it improves. I would be careful this time of year (11/08) as the leaves are very slippery. You will eventually pass a dock with a bench seat. It is not clear whether this is part of the trail project or not. The article on the trail indicated they would be building a dock to allow kayaks and canoes to enter Long Creek. The dock maybe part of the new condo project up over the hill.

You will also be able to find another cache ( GC1D6VR) along the trail if you are a premium member.

Once you find the cache, if you proceed a short distance along the trail you will come to a point of land where little stick frames have been placed. The trail at this time pretty much dead ends here. The plan is to eventually connect it behind the pumping station near Wild Willy's Burgers. You can read more about the trail at the following Link: (visit link)
