The Yakima Delta Habitat Management Unit is a 268-acre preserve
that is maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers. It is a great
place for an in-town hike or walk. We have seen deer, coyotes,
hawks and owls while walking through the preserve.
There are usually less people here than in the Chamna Preserve
on the other side of the river. The cache is an ammo box and has
lots of nice geoswag in it. The parking lot is at: N46 14.608 W119
15.814. From there it is about a 3/4 mile walk to the cache (so 1.5
miles round trip). The best route is to follow the dirt road that
runs just north of Columbia Park Trail. After 0.4 miles, the road
turns north. Another couple of hundred feet and you will cross a
wood bridge. After that, you can't get in too much trouble. If you
miss the bridge, you might be wading across the stream.
There are 8 other geocaches in this preserve that you may want
to get while you are there. Please replace the cache as you found
it.
