Geocache Description:

You are visiting the historic Snyder Cemetery. In 2001 the Texas Historical Commission recognized the century-old Snyder Cemetery as a Historic Texas Cemetery. This designation is reserved for cemeteries that are at least 50 years old and deemed worthy of preservation for their historic association. The cache is a camo wrapped Fossil watch type can. It is easily a handcap accessible cache.

J. Wright Mooar killed a rare albino buffalo cow on the afternoon of October 7, 1876 near Deep Creek (one of two known ever killed in Texas). The hide of that albino, afterward shown in 1904 St. Louis Fair and many other occasions, is now preserved in Scurry County by Mooar's descendants.Teddy Roosevelt is said to have offered him $5,000 for the hide, but Mooar declined the offer. Mooar shot about 22,000 buffalo, a record probably unsurpassed. His ability to hit a vital spot from a distance of 1,000 feet or farther won the respect of Comanche Indian Chief Quanah Parker, a friend in later life. The Mooar brothers began ranching in Scurry county in 1877 and Wright became known as Scurry county's No. 1 citizen. He is buried at this place with his wife and adopted son.
