Geocache Description:

The cache container was replaced and hidden in a new location on 7/30/11. The new cache is a cammoed waterproof Geocaching container that unscrews. Please be careful not to lose the o-ring that seals the container. When replacing the log, roll it up and fit it into the cover, then screw the container onto the cover. The top part should remain where it is. Since this is a smaller container than the original, you will have to bring your own pen.

The coordinates above will bring you to a small park where you will find a memorial marking the birthplace of Meshech Weare.

Although rarely remembered, Meshech Weare was among NH's most powerful early leaders. He has been called "The Father of New Hampshire" and was the first "President" of the state in 1784-85, before governors technically existed.

Meshech Weare was one of the relatively small number of persons of that day who had a college education, graduating from Harvard College in 1735. He, like other leaders of the American Revolution, was a member of a minority who knew how to read, write and think well and who could express their political ideas fluently in speeches, letters and pamphlets.

His career during the American Revolution was a remarkable example of public trust in one man. To equal Weare's service today, a single man would have to hold simultaneously the offices of governor, president of the state senate and chief justice of the Supreme Court.

From the inscription on the Meshech Weare Memorial in Hampton Falls, NH:

"HON. MESHECH WEARE

Born June 16, 1713 - Graduated at Harvard College, 1735 - Speaker of House of Representatives, 1752 - Commissioner to Congress at Albany, 1751 - President of New Hampshire, 1776-1781 - At the same time Counsellor from Rockingham, Chairman of the Committee of Safety, President of the Council and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

In public service 45 years.

Died January 14, 1786."

The New Hampshire town of Weare is named after him because he was the town's first clerk.

To find the final cache, find the year that this memorial was erected. Take that four digit number and ADD it to the last four digits of BOTH the North and West coordinates below:

N 42° 52.069 W 070° 50.499

The new coordinates will take you to the final.

~~~ Please note... the cache container can now be accessed easily from inside the ball park, as long as there is no ball game going on! You do not need to go beyond the fence, into the bushes, or near the construction area at the back of the park, which is eventually going to be a football field! ~~~
And don't forget - you will need to bring your own pen. Logs that say "I found the location but didn't have a pen, so I couldn't sign the log" will not be accepted. You must sign the log sheet, please!
Good luck!
