Old Almonte Road Traditional Cache
alseaman: I have concluded that it is best to archive this cache. There
are no other locations within the 500 foot limitation for
relocation that is dry enough for a decent cache. It seems
best to abandon this cache and go to a new cache at a higher
and drier spot. I will do that in about 2 weeks after I get
back from vacation.

A well disguised cache along the Old Almonte Road.
Back in the 70s when I worked at Digital Equipment of Canada on Herzberg Rd I would sometimes get bored with the commute along the regular route, March Rd/Regional Rd 49 (as it is now designated). The alternate scenic route was Richardson Sideroad which starts at Carling Ave to David Manchester Rd (current name), then a short jog to Old Almonte Road, and home. In those days, Richardson Sideroad went straight as an arrow past the edge of Kanata and through forest and farm land, and Old Almonte road was a quintessential country lane, meandering through farm land, forest and swamp. Alas! Kanata expanded and ate the middle out of Richardson Sideroad, and creeping urbanism has seen much new housing along the eastern end of Old Almonte Road, and a portion is even paved now.
Fortunately, west of Corkery Road, Old Almonte Road still retains most of the old character, and this cache is planted along this portion as a memorial to the way it used to be. The cache is a short distance off the road in some trees. The ditch may or may not have water in it depending on weather conditions, but a short hop should get you over it. There is no bush whacking required.
This is a microcache in a suitably disguised hide. Please replace it exactly as you found it. No pictures of the cache please. There is no room for a writing implement, so please bring your own.
