A little piece of local history.
Go to the published co-ordinates and find a plaque mounted on a small rock and collect some information.
NOTE. There is no parking this side of the road.
The plaque is headed; ‘Stonyfell – 183A’
You will note that rates were assessed in B853 on a partly-built house and that, after being unoccupied, the property was rented by John Hallett in 185C. Also note that Henry Clark (1836-1864) and Joseph Crompton (1D40-19E1) established a partnership that included growing grapes on the north-facing ‘Stonyfell’ hillside.
The cache is located at:
s34 55.ABC e138 40.DEE
It is suggested that you park at s34 55.884 e138 40.757 and walk the short distance to the GZ where, although Satloc is a bit dicey, you should have no difficulty finding what you are looking for among the trees. Keep your eyes open for a glimpse of Stonyfell House deep in the gully.
The object of your search was probably used by the nearby Stonyfell Quarries and later acquired by the Crompton Family for a water tank.
The cache is a 500 ml black-painted cliplock box with logbook and some goodies.
