Geocache Description:

Cache is a camo painted match safe. It is located at the lookout looking down into the canyon. You can get a good view of the church and the covered bridge from here. Be sure and give youself plenty of time and bring a camera along for this cache.

Cache is located in Heritage Canyon and placed with permission from the city of Fulton. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Heritage Canyon is a 12-acre wooded structure nature walk dotted with buildings that take the visitor back to the 1800's. Self guided walking tours marked by numbered yellow arrows on brick paths will guide you through a pleasant experience.

This area began as a limestone quarry back in the mid 1800’s. In 1954 the quarry was abandoned because the dynamiting was damaging both sides of the river. The area then became an eyesore to the community.

In 1967 Harold and Thelma Wierenga bought the quarry. They created a piece of Midwestern history with little impact to nature and attention for detail and authenticity that you can now enjoy. After Harold’s passing in 1999 his daughter and son-in-law maintained the Canyon for several years. However the task was simply too much for the couple and in 2005 the City of Fulton was given ownership of Heritage Canyon.

There is a place for donations that are used for improvements to the park. Also on special days an admission is requested for adults and children over 14. For more information on those special days or on the history of the Canyon visit the City of Fulton website at www.cityoffulton.us

Parking is at N 41 52.638 W 090 09.935
