Girls’ Time Away -- Living A Fantasy! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Groundhog & Shadow: I sadly will have to archive this cache as it causes me a lot of grief. Too bad that the City didn't look after this spot and it has grown over. Will stop by to check for any cache when in the area.

Geocache Description:

This medium-sized theme cache is placed just off a trail along Mill Creek beside Enterprise Way, and contains swag that would “appeal to ladies/girls”, as well as a logbook and pencil. Please try to keep your trades within this theme, and replace as found to keep camo cover in place.

The story behind this cache: As Pappy90 & Shadow had gone on a week “boys only” hunting trip in late August, Dyelo & Groundhog decided they should have some time away as well -- on kind of a holiday, so we spent a few days in Kelowna shopping and pampering ourselves, and we had a lot of laughs, especially when we were scheming a special joke on our guys. We called each other Sherri and Veronica. Didn’t have any time to do some serious caching as we ran out of time, but we decided to quickly put out this cache (just before our manicure) to commemorate our “girls’ time away”, hence the theme of this cache. Turns out the cache didn't get approved where we originally put it, so now that Mach2003 has archived his book cache (and that was the only cache we had done that day), Groundhog found a spot here!

Now for some education about the cache location. . . The City of Kelowna's Environmental Division began restoring and enhancing Mill Creek in 1997, and as more funding becomes available, have continued to do so. The objectives of this project were: to stabilize streambanks to limit the amount of sediment impacting aquatic habitat and water quality; to reestablish the riparian zone using over 2,300 native plants to restore the stream to a more natural state; to reduce the number of invasive weeds, such as thistle, to allow native plants to establish; and to educate the public about the importance of restoration along Mill Creek.

One piece of info learned at this site: Using a combination of large rock, large logs and root wads, helps to recreate fish habitat that would typically be seen in a natural system and stabilizes the streambanks. You can also learn about riffles, pools and glide in streams while you are here.
