Barrow End Rocks, Greenodd Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

martlakes: Following a helpful report of the state of things, came and checked it out.
As told, someone has decided to break the cap and cause damage - "anything for MY find" it would appear. I'm sorry, but some geocachers shouldn't be allowed out. As the 'sport' has grown the small percentage of humans who are stupid, selfish and reckless have infected the game and it seems any mayhem, damage, danger or inconvenience is ok "as long as I get to find the cache".
Long gone are the days when it was mostly outdoor folk with some respect for the countryside and a sensible if nerdy attitude to having fun. A few 'modern' cachers are just totally self-centred and don't care about others or anything it appears.
Anyway, the caching world has moved on in other ways too, and this type of hide has become less unusual and isn't the challenge it once was. Given that and the vandalism it's time to shut it down and move on.
Thanks to all those sensible cachers who visited and enjoyed the challenge, the clue (one of our best!) and the location. Yah boo to all the idiots.
Bye bye, Barrow End Rocks - you were fun!

Geocache Description:

Five-ninety Fun! Barrow End Rocks are close by a small picnic site, which overlooks Greenodd Sands and Ellerside. A great place to pause and take in the scene. Also has loos.

The top of the Greenodd Estuary between Nab Point and Mearness Point is a wide 'pool' that looks more like a lake when the tide is in. The A590 runs right along the shore giving excellent views across to the beautiful hills of the Ellerside Ridge. The straight embankment of the old Lakeside/Haverthwaite rail line continues south while the road stays close to the foot of the higher land. Looking north gives a fine view of the bridge across the water, see Tashington's cache GC12QHR.

The car park is well signed and is just before the southern end of the dual-carriageway, south of the Greenodd/A5092 junction. It has toilets, which are open during the day. You may find a height restriction at the entrance. It can be busy so you may need to pick your moment or create a diversion!

This cache is not in the wall. Your GPSr should be good as the signal is excellent here. Please be stealthy. At high tide you may find a fisherman encamped next to it!
