Geocache Description:

Five-ninety Fun! The new High Newton by-pass provides an excellent viewpoint for the Coniston range so worth a stop to take advantage of the opportunity.

The High Newton by-pass slices through the lumpy ground around the village. To provide access and realign the minor roads a new bridge spans the dual-carriageway. The bridge provides a great viewpoint to see the Coniston hills, as does the main road. It's the first view of the central hills as you head down the A590 and if you're off to climb a peak it gives an excellent sense of what the weather is doing.

This cache gives you the excuse to divert through now-quiet High Newton and visit the bridge, taking time to enjoy the view. You can drive directly to the bridge and there is space to park. Hopefully, it shouldn't need mentioning, but, don't stop on the dual-carriageway! The box is a small plastic tub with a few swaps. It's NOT in the wall.

Please take a photo and upload it with your log onto the cache page. The view changes with the weather, sometimes crystal clear and on other days: 'what mountains?' It will be fun to build up a catalog of views. Who can catch it on a brilliantly clear day? With snow on the peaks? A night-time shot? Probably easy to get a pic on a grey day!

Enjoy the view!
